Derek S. Andrews

Senior Attorney

Derek Andrews is our Senior Attorney in New York’s Capital District and surrounding Eastern New York region.  Derek prides himself on being a young, intelligent, and aggressive attorney who is motivated to defend his clients’ interests and rights actively. Since his law school graduation and for the vast majority of his career, Derek has been passionate about defending those individuals facing criminal charges, whether it’s by negotiating for the most favorable plea bargain or going to trial. His successful track record in the courtroom is proof of his efforts. He approaches each of his client’s cases as unique and treats each person as his equal. Whether it be pursuing a quick resolution through negotiation or litigating a case before a judge and jury, Derek is always trying his hardest to get the best result. He understands, though, that the best result changes from person to person, and he crafts a defense strategy to suit that client.

Before joining Nave Defense Attorneys, Derek was a Senior Attorney with Anelli Xavier, where he focused his representation around DWI defense and managed the Syracuse Office and the entire staff. Through that experience, Derek learned that the criminal justice system could be unfair and break down even the toughest among us if they don’t understand how the systems work. For that reason, he has dedicated his practice to defending individuals charged with crimes who deserve to be defended by an attorney willing to go the extra mile.

Since Derek devoted his practice to criminal defense, he has spent the majority of his time in the courtroom fighting for his clients, and he has taken numerous cases to verdict before juries. He regularly contributes his time researching developments in the law and incorporating new knowledge into his practice so that he can better represent his clients.

For the last four years in a row, Derek was selected for inclusion on Super Lawyers’ Rising Stars list for Upstate New York criminal defense and DWI/DUI lawyers. Super Lawyers is a rating service of outstanding lawyers from more than 70 practice areas who have attained a high-degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. He was awarded the highest peer rating, AV Preeminent, on Martindale-Hubbell. This rating signifies that a large number of the lawyer’s peers rank him at the highest level of professional excellence for his legal knowledge, communication skills, and ethical standards.

Derek also achieved a 10.0 out 10.0 rating on AVVO, a 3rd party attorney rating system where clients can find reputable attorneys and ask questions of those same attorneys.
